Reminiscing today over a fantastically positive experience we had back in December with The Garden Shed Gin Company.
If you don’t already know about this company and the charitable work they are carrying out for our environment I hope that after you read this blog you will look them up on social media and begin to follow their journey, with the added benefit of their new at delivery service while we all stay safely at home during these uncertain times.
The idea behind this environmentally friendly gin company began when a group of friends were chatting round the dinner table after a recent visit to a local distillery.
The concept was to create a gin in the shed, inspired by botanicals found on their doorstep, from the wild berries at the bottom of the garden to the dandelion they worked so hard to get rid of! The dream quickly became a wonderful reality.

Montpeliers has built a close relationship with the fantastic four Maxine, Kirstin, Ryan and Ruaridh. As part of their #PlantingTreesAndSavingBees movement they asked volunteers from Montpeliers alongside other hospitality companies to help them Plant one hundred trees with Trees 4 Scotland!
As Maxine kindly explained the message behind the plan for every case of gin sold was The Garden Shed Gin would plant one tree. In a bid to offset carbon emissions, they also make an equivalent donation to the Bumblebee Conservation Trust in an effort to give back to nature - they have a commercial partnership agreement with them to show that this isn’t just about sales for this gin company but a meaningful partnership!
In early December 2019, on this typical Scottish winters day where we had wind, rain, snow, sunshine and rainbows. I was delighted to participate in planting trees with my sister with gloves, puffa jackets and boots on we were surrounded by such warm and welcoming people as we represented Montpeliers and Indigo Yard.
Once we arrived at the location in Perth we met with Angus Crabbie, who not only spoke to us about the importance of trees and their impact on the environment but also talked us through a step by step on how to plant the trees correctly and space them out to maximise the potential for each individual tree planted!
We spent the day in teams of three or four so that everyone could take a turn shovelling, digging, planting and protecting the tiny trees as we worked! We took little breaks to enjoy delicious sandwiches and some fantastic coffee from the Bonnie Mountain Coffee company , while also getting to sample some of the delicious new Garden Shed Gin ‘Bramble and Peach’.

The Garden Shed Gin Company has also done some fantastic work for the Amazon Rainforest Fires where they planted their trees for the month of August, totalling two hundred trees and over the Christmas period they asked those who had purchased their gin to re share a photo of this at the Christmas tree and for every social media submission they would plant a tree.

The Tree Planting experience will always remain a special time for my sister and I. One that will always be remembered.
